Breakas Beach Resort & Villas, a Port Vila Vanuatu Resort
Breakas Beach Resort & Villas is about a 7 minute drive from downtown Port Vila. Breakas initially styled itself (as you might think from the name) as a resort for the young and active, especially surfers and airline personnel. Attractive young men and women are often found around the Infinity Pool or at the swim-up bar. George, the owner/developer is a charming, extroverted business man. He likes and helps the local people of Pango Village (most of the staff is from the local village). He's the sort of guy who will stop by your table to see if you are enjoying your meal and to chat for awhile. The whole resort reflects this kind of extroverted friendliness because, of course, George built it from the ground up according to his own tastes. Over the years the popularity of Breaka's has shown that there are alot of people who appreciate George's efforts and enjoy the social interaction of the resort. Breakas is an adults only (over 15 years) resort with Melanesian style bungalows tucked under the large beach trees. You can stay in beachfront or garden bungalows. Both are equally nice, but the garden bungalows are slightly less expensive. The beachfront bungalows are, of course, right on the top of the beach with a great view of the sunset from the verandah. If you choose a beachfront bungalow there will be people in front of your bungalow during the day. If you are socially inclined and enjoy watching or talking to people on the beach, this is great. If you want more privacy, pick a garden bungalow, further back under the big trees, surrounded by flower gardens. In 2008, Breakas opened some modern style waterfront villas with full kitchen facilities and private swimming pools (also available for purchase as holiday homes or time-share investments). Breaka's restaurant and bar are both popular local venues. Recently, with the additon of the new one and two bedroom Vilas (for sale as strata-titled holiday homes) George is trying to shift their marketing towards attracting older people as well.
