Leneai Palms Resort Tanna Island Vanuatu
In the Tanna Language of the area just south of Lenakel, the word "Leneai" means "heaven." Leneai Palms Resort has a small white sand beach and a broad reef flat, and broad grass areas bordered with flower gardens. The resort has two thatched family bungalows and a series of modern-style bungalows. The restaurant is the only place in Tanna that makes ice-cream. It's the owners, Rob and Anne, that make this place special. They come from Oberon, a rural town in Australia about a 4.5 hour drive west of Sydney. They came to Tanna as volunteers on a Rotary Club project and decided then and there to stay on as the Rotary Club's on-the-scene coordinator of assistance projects. Every year Rotary Club volunteers come to Leneai Palms to participate in a wide range of community assistance projects. The volunteers represent a wide range of talents - plumbers, electricians, builders, computer specialists, doctors, nurses, and they work with the local people to rebuild the hospital, upgrade the school, improve the plumbing, and lots of other jobs. All the while the volunteers are in Tanna they also enjoy the tours, visit the volcano, use the resort's facilities, and have an unparalled cultural experience. You don't have to be a Rotary Club volunteer to enjoy Leneai Palms Resort, but if you are interested in cross-cultural assistance projects, this is the place to go.
